On Saturday 10 December 2022, in the commune of Porte-de-Benauge/Arbis (Gironde), near Bordeaux, the search for revival of the underground hydrographic network in the Drindineyres cave.

Under the direction of Gabriel Balloux, the CDS (departmental committee of speleology of the Gironde), the SIETRA (inter-community union for the studies, works, restoration and development of the Entre-deux-Mers Ouest), the SMABVO (mixed union for the development of the Oeuille watershed).

The fluorescein was poured into the water

Just before the siphon of the Drindineyres cave, fluorescein was poured into the water. The following day, sensors were installed in places of probable resurgence: Pelat, Tribus, Larmesy.

No “neon” green color was observed in the water of these resurgences on Wednesday, December 14, not even through an ultraviolet ray emitted by a lamp.

Waiting for the rain

Speleologists, waiting for heavy rains, have noticed a low water level in the resurgences of Pelat and Tribus, in the L’Œuille stream.

The stories of the cave

The origin of the name “Drindineyres” : in Gascon, “drindinar” means to ring, “drindinete” means bell (the sound resounds right in the cave…).

To pass the cat flap of the Drindineyres cave (short but very narrow passage), in the past, a priest of Blasimonled by Jean Carrier, he had to leave his cassock.

A pair of oxen disappears…

In the 30s, a grandmother who went to the laundry du Pelat, dropped the laundry basket into the resurgence and saw it sucked up.

A legend of the Pays de Benauge tells ita pair of oxen has disappeared in this same pool of water.

As in Escoussans and Saint-Pierre-de-Bat, the resurgences of underground hydrographic networks have been used to build washhouses nearby.

It should also be noted that these resurgences are all located near rivers (L’Œuille, L’Aubarit).
