Before the start of the Spanish league, few would have bet that Girona would be able to compete with the giants of the league, but the small Catalan team was able to compete with Real Madrid for the first place in the table by leading the league before the round.

In accordance with their excellent form, Girona came up with a strong offensive game in the first minutes of the match, first Yangel Herrera headed over the Madrid goal, then Viktor Cihankov’s slide went off the post. The missed opportunities were punished by the Royal Guard with a goal in the 17th minute: Bellingham gave a teacher’s ball with a better look Joselunas (Luka Modric, sitting on the bench, was also able to click with satisfaction when he saw the pass), who swooped in and shot at the goal – the ball bounced off the Girona goalkeeper, Gazzaniga, behind the goal line. Four minutes later, Real’s fans could celebrate again, Toni Kroos’ corner Aurélien Tchouaméni he nodded to the goal – Blind, who was guarding him, could rightfully be questioned by his teammates.

Even with the two-goal lead, Carlo Ancelotti’s team did not stop, Bellingham’s team could have scored a third goal, but Gazzaniga bravely saved the jump. In the continuation, both sides slowed down, so Madrid ended the first half with a two-goal lead – although it was necessary for Gazzaniga to hit Kroos’ bomb over the bar in extra time.

The second half also started with a roaring opportunity for Girona, David López’s header was bravely saved by Kepa, and the rebound was scooped up by Eric García, on loan from Barcelona. In the 64th minute, Bellingham could have scored again, but Gazzaniga was on the alert again. With the passage of time, Girona, who were struggling after the beautification, opened up one more, and Real Madrid took advantage of this in the 71st minute: at the end of the exemplary counter, Joselu’s shot was still saved by Gazzaniga, but the routine striker saved the rebound. Jude Bellingham he raised it in front of him, who flicked the ball into the net with his characteristic confidence.

In the extra time, Nacho was sent off by the referee for a gross foul, but it was no longer divided, it was not multiplied – Real Madrid took away Girona’s unbeaten streak and returned to the top of the table six days after losing the city rally.
