Girona returned to the top of the Spanish League standings after a landslide win over Sevilla. Girona silenced Sergio Ramos et al. with a score of 5-1.
The Girona vs Sevilla duel in Week 21 of LaLiga was held at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, Monday (22/1/2024) early morning WIB. Having conceded first, Girona then responded by scoring three goals in the first half.
Sevilla surprised the hosts with a quick goal in the 10th minute. Isaac Romero completed Adria Pedrosa’s low pass to break into Girona’s goal.
Artem Dovbyk then scored a hat-trick in just six minutes to put Girona back in front. He scored his first goal in the 13th minute with a header after completing Savio’s pass.
Dovbyk scored again in the 15th minute. Receiving feedback from Cristian Portu, Dovbyk fired with his left foot.
Dovbyk completed his hat-trick with a goal in the 19th minute. This time he beat the Sevilla goalkeeper with a precise shot from outside the penalty box.
Viktor Tsigankov added to Girona’s lead by scoring his team’s fourth goal in the 56th minute. Savio’s pass from the left was completed by Tsigankov who ran towards the goal.
Girona scored his fifth goal of this match in the 89th minute. Cristhian Stuani sealed Girona’s victory with a shot from the front of goal completing a pass from Miguel Gutierrez.
With this victory, Girona moved Real Madrid from the top of the Spanish League standings with 52 points from 21 matches. Previously, Madrid occupied the top position with 51 points thanks to the victory over Almeria.
