Giro555’s action for victims of the conflict in Ukraine raised a total of almost 184.5 million euros. This makes it the second most successful action ever, the cooperating aid organizations of Giro555 report. The collection for the victims of the tsunami in Asia in 2004 raised the most with 208.3 million euros.
On February 28, 2022, the giro number was opened to collect money for those affected by the war, which had broken out four days earlier. The national promotion ran until last month, making it Giro555’s longest-running promotion.
The money raised will be spent on humanitarian aid. This involves the distribution of food parcels and financial contributions for the purchase of food, drinking water, clothing and medicines. The money is also intended for, for example, repairing houses, water and electricity supplies, and for temporary housing, childcare, trauma care and demining.
Giro555 is an initiative of eleven cooperating aid organizations, including the Red Cross, Oxfam Novib and UNICEF. A number of guest aid organizations are also involved in the Ukraine campaign, such as Dokters van de Wereld and PAX. (ANP)
