Initiatives to accommodate Ukrainian refugees in Dutch homes have generated thousands of applications in recent days. Enough people have now offered themselves to Room for Ukraine to temporarily accommodate approximately five thousand people, initiator Louis de Mast told ANP.
“We made the first matches,” he says. That’s just a handful of people. Large numbers of refugees are expected later. Room for Ukraine is busy recruiting more volunteers to match supply and demand for temporary living spaces. “We are also looking for cooperation with other organizations, such as Vluchtelingenwerk”, says de Nijmegen.
A similar citizens’ initiative, Shelter Ukraine, has so far generated more than six thousand registrations. The practical implementation is still being worked on, said initiator Huib van Mierlo.
