Groenewegen also announced that he will enter his first Giro with a different sprint train than planned. Mike Teunissen and Amund Grøndahl Jansen skip the Tour of Italy, because they ride classics in that period.
“Normally they are classic riders who come with me. I should now have other strong boys with me, Christoph Pfingsten, Jos van Emden and Tony Martin,” says the sprinter of Jumbo-Visma.
Sprinting with a mask?
According to research by scientists from the universities of Eindhoven and Leuven, cycling can be safely done again if testing is done daily. Groenewegen is happy with that, although he does not like sprinting with a mask.
“That seems difficult to me, because you get less air,” said the sprinter. “Maybe it will work with special masks, but I don’t really see it yet. On the other hand: you will probably get used to it again. At least I want to race again.”
