Giro d’Italia: Girmay makes history, an Eritrean triumphs in Jesi

Biniam Girmay won the tenth stage of the Giro d’Italia, Pescara-Jesi of 196 km. For the first time an Eritrean runner wins a stage in the pink race. After the Ghent-Wevelgen, the Intermarché sprinter Wanty Gobert scores another valuable stroke: at the finish line Jesi launched a long sprint managing to respond to the return of Mathieu Van der Poel – splendid thumbs up towards the Eritrean at a few meters from the finish – chasing the second stage victory after the success at the debut in Visegrad. Eritrea is the 36th country to win a stage in the Giro d’Italia.

The stage that passed on the streets of Michele Scarponi experienced a three-way escape with the usual Mattia Bais (Drone Hopper Androni) taken after the start to which De Marchi (Israel Premier Tech) and Naesen (Ag2r Citroen) were added.
