Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding: “I have my last ker …

Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding probably doesn’t have long to live. The 39-year-old British has metastatic breast cancer and will not make it to the end of the year, her doctors expect. “In December, my doctor told me I could probably celebrate Christmas for the last time,” Sarah writes in her memoir Hear Me Out, from which The Times published an excerpt on Saturday.

Sarah announced last year that she is ill. In August it became clear that the cancer has spread. The painful thing is that the singer postponed a visit to a doctor because of the corona crisis. “At first I thought it was just a cyst. But the problem was that the pain just kept getting worse. It got so bad I couldn’t sleep in a bed. My skin was bruised. Then I was really terrified. ” She writes that at one point she realized she was in denial. “Yes, there was a pandemic, but it was also as if I had used that as an excuse not to face that something was very wrong.”

She was undergoing chemotherapy and also had to be artificially put into a coma in between when her lung and kidney functions failed. “Even when I was off the ventilator, I couldn’t really speak yet; at most make some sounds like a chimpanzee. ”

Losing hair

Now Sarah is refusing radiotherapy for a second tumor because she will lose her hair, with no guarantees that she can get better. “I’m just grateful to wake up every day and live my best life because now I know how precious it is,” she told The Times Magazine. “It may seem vain, but if there is a chance that I have six months, then I really want to live it. I don’t want to feel like I have to hide the time I have left. ”

She does not know exactly how long she has left to live, and Harding does not want to know either. “Comfort and as little pain as possible is the most important thing for me now,” says the singer, who was part of the girl group Girls Aloud for eleven years.
