Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding (39) passed away

British singer Sarah Harding, who was part of the British pop group Girls Aloud, has died at the age of 39. She had been suffering from breast cancer for some time.

“It is with pain in my heart that I share the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has unfortunately passed away,” writes Harding’s mother Marie Hardman Instagram. “Many of you know that Sarah has battled cancer, she fought hard from the day she was diagnosed to her last day.” Hardman also writes that her daughter “passed away peacefully” this morning.

Harding announced last August that she had advanced breast cancer. Her autobiography was published in March, in which she wrote that she probably wouldn’t make it to Christmas this year.

Popstars – the Rivals

The singer became known in 2002 for her participation in the British talent show Popstars – the Rivals. The contest included the pop group Girls Aloud, which also included Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh. In the Netherlands, the group had hits with songs like Sound Of The Underground on Jump.

Girls Aloud broke up in 2013, after which Harding started a solo career.
