A new suspect has been arrested in the case of the Missing 4-year-old girl whose remains are alleged to have been found in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported that Tammy Taylor Moffett, 52, is the second suspect arrested in connection with the case.
The woman was arrested on May 27, according to records from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Charlotte Observer assured that Moffett is the grandmother of little Miegellic Young, the missing 4-year-old girl. He is accused of hiding a death and being an accessory after the fact.
The first detainee was the girl’s own mother: Malikah Diane Bennett, 21. Investigators believe that all the evidence points to the remains found being that of the missing girl.
Miellegic’s remains were found buried in the courtyard of his own mother’s house. Now investigators accuse Bennett’s mother of covering up the crime.
The mother is arrested on charges of child abuse, inflicting harm to the minor, murder in the first degree and concealing the crime.
Although Bennett had already had records of problems with law enforcement authorities, there was no indication that he might have committed the murder of his daughter. Investigators believe the girl died in September 2020.
