There was great excitement when the police heard about the incident on Friday night. According to her own statements, the girl was out and about with a playmate on the banks of the Main near Arthur-Zitscher-Straße when she was suddenly pushed into the Main by a stranger.
Investigators called witnesses to comment on the incident. They searched intensively for a man about six feet tall who is said to have worn a blue sweater and a green cap.
Now the U-turn: In the course of the interrogation, the boy who had accompanied the eight-year-old admitted that the alleged act was fictitious.
In truth, the girl fell into the river while playing. Since she is said to have been afraid of confessing this to her parents, she and her playmate agreed to make up the story of the strange man.
Due to their young age, neither of the two children is expecting criminal proceedings.
