The shooting took place in the Bronx borough. Police said the three affected teens were on their way home from school when they approached the altercation between two men a short distance away. When the gunman opened fire, the fatality was hit in the chest. Another 16-year-old girl was hit in the leg, a 17-year-old boy was hit in the buttock.
Second victim in a week
No arrests have been made yet, but police do have video footage of the shooting. It is the second time in more than a week that young people in New York are victims of stray bullets. On March 31, a 12-year-old boy in Brooklyn was killed in a similar incident.
