The plane, en route to Beaver Island in the American state of Michigan, ran into problems for unknown reasons on Saturday, after which it crashed. 11-year-old Laney Perdue was the only survivor of the accident and ended up in hospital with serious injuries. Four other passengers were killed, including the teen’s father.
Last memory
That Laney survived is thanks to her father, her mother now tells to AP news agency. “My daughter’s last memory, before the plane crashed, was that her father protected her like a bear.”

Mother Christina is convinced that his embrace saved her life. “I’m sure her father protected my daughter. He gave her the best hugs. That’s why she survived.”
The girl is still in the hospital. She is doing well under the circumstances, but her recovery will take some time. “She’s broken a lot of bones. But she’s a fighter,” a family member previously told The Sun.
