The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) offered nine names as potential candidates to advance in the presidential candidate market (presidential candidate) 2024.
The proposal for the nine names follows the decision of the General Chair of PSI, Giring Ganesha alias Giring Nidji, who abandoned his intention to run in the 2024 presidential candidate exchange.
“So today, with full awareness, I am Giring Ganesha, announcing that I am withdrawing from my candidacy for president of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said at an online press conference on PSI’s YouTube channel, Thursday (24/2).
Giring admitted that 2024 was not the right time for him to run as a presidential candidate. He also expressed his gratitude to all those who have continued to support him.
Along with his decision to cancel his candidacy in the presidential candidate market, the former vocalist of the band Nidji offered nine potential names. According to him, these nine names are currently the most wanted by the people to become president.
The nine names are respectively Emil Dardak; Erick Thohir; Ganjar Pranowo; Mahfud MD; Muhammad Andika Perkasa; Mochamad Ridwan Kamil; Muhammad Tito Karnavian; Najwa Shihab and Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
“They are the nation’s cadres who are considered capable of continuing the politics of welfare, clean politics and openness politics,” he said.
Of these names, there is no Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan. In fact, the two names in many surveys are often included in the ranks of the respondents’ choices.
On the other hand, Giring said that his party’s decision to offer nine names is because the constitution limits the will of the people who want President Joko Widodo to continue for three terms.
“This is a fact on the ground, as well as the aspirations of the people who really love Jokowi. However, it is limited by the constitution that the president can only serve for 2 terms,” he said.
