Giraffe of the Riga Zoo, recently brought from Austria, celebrates his birthday / Article

The two-year-old birthday was celebrated on Monday, August 9, by the giraffe girl Vakilija, who was recently transferred from Austria to the Riga Zoo.

The celebrations took place quietly, without the presence of guests, because the new resident has not yet become accustomed to the new home and strangers.

Feeding these animals in zoos is specific and expensive. The main food is willow twigs and bark, as well as alfalfa hay. In turn, grass, fruits and vegetables contain a lot of water and giraffes can cause upset stomach.

Therefore, as a special delicacy every day is served only a handful of carrots.

Vakilija has endured the trip to Riga well and is interested in her neighbor, much older giraffe guy Kimi. However, the giraffe is still very cautious in exploring the area, so she can only be seen rarely in the promenade.
