Insight into the twelve-story building on Madison Avenue, which offers 9,000 square meters of space for Armani’s various fashion and interior lines as well as a restaurant and luxury residences.
At the last Milan Fashion Week in September, the fashion brand Giorgio Armani was conspicuous by its absence. The fashion designer continued to show his second line Emporio Armani in his hometown, but to present the new collection of his main line he chose a date outside of the official show calendar – and for the first time a new location: New York.

The reason for this was the opening of his new, monumental store on Madison Avenue. The building was built in collaboration with real estate company SL Green Realty Corp. and the architectural firm Cookfox Architects and is inspired by the aesthetics of the 1930s and 1940s. The facade fits seamlessly into the historic cityscape of the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
On twelve floors, the 9,000 square meter area offers space for the various boutiques of “Giorgio Armani” and the “Armani/Casa” furniture line. There is also an “Armani/Ristorante” and luxurious “Giorgio Armani Residences”.

The shop areas are structured thematically: on the ground floor there are the collections for women’s fashion, accessories and glasses, but also beauty and perfumes as well as a selection of “Armani/Dolci” products. On the first floor there is jewelry and evening wear and the men’s universe with clothing and accessories as well as the made-to-order area for women and men.

On the third floor you can immerse yourself in the living world of “Armani/Casa”. Functionally and modularly designed with sliding walls, each room can be divided as needed to display furniture, furnishings, accessories, wallpaper and fabrics.

The building on the corner of East 65th Street also includes ten luxury Armani-look apartments, which are believed to be on the upper floors. The starting price is $21.5 million. The “Armani/Ristorante” with its own street entrance is located on the ground floor and on the mezzanine. In the modern design, a touch of retro should not be missing for the noble Upper East Side flair. At the entrance there is a champagne bar, behind which are the two dining areas, where Italian cuisine with New York flavors is served as aesthetically presented dishes.

A tribute to New York
The Armani Group placed a high priority on sustainability during construction, and the store space was awarded gold certification by LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). For example, energy consumption was reduced by 20 percent and drinking water consumption by 30 percent. The energy comes from renewable sources, while almost all construction waste is recyclable and the materials are environmentally friendly.
The grand opening ceremony should also be realized as sustainably as possible. Suppliers all had to comply with certain social and environmental clauses, food waste and the use of single-use plastic were avoided, and greenhouse gas emissions were offset by supporting environmental projects.
Armani’s latest luxury concept is intended to be a lasting tribute to a city that welcomed him early and shaped important moments in his career, the press release says. The old master is referring to the long-standing partnership with Bergdorf Goodman, the first department store to stock its men’s collection in the 1980s.
The ninety-year-old fashion designer also said: “For me, New York has always been associated with the many films that have deeply influenced my imagination. The thought of the city in the 1930s and 1940s always inspires me.” However, it is a memory without nostalgia. New York is more lively and frenetic than ever and continues to look forward, constantly developing new models of life, style and social life.
