When we refer to the most famous club championships in the world, we definitely have to mention the Copa Libertadores de América and the UEFA Champions League (in English, UEFA Champions League). The Libertadores was created in 1960 under the name of Copa Campeones de América and has the participation of the best located clubs in the South American leagues. It is the most renowned championship on the continent and one of the two most famous tournaments in the world. The other is the Champions League, which brings together the best of the European leagues and is the most prestigious tournament in the Old Continent, created in 1955 as the European Champions Club Cup, which has acquired its current name since 1992.

Touching on the history of soccer championships, some lines deserve the oldest tournament in the world: the FA Cup, an English competition that was played for the first time since 1871 and which is close to turning 150 years old. All the English teams that compete in the Premier League participate there, as well as in other minor categories. It is a simple tournament, of direct elimination, where the most modest team can face the richest and most successful, until they become a ‘giant killer’; to later return to his league and thus continue his long path of promotion. In our tournament – saving enormous organizational distances – it would be like a League 1 team facing one that participates in the Peru Cup.

And the latter brings us to the structure of our unique tournaments, where a newly assembled team for a district stage of the Peru Cup can quickly ascend to League 1, with only one year of competition, without going through the necessary requirement of playing the League. 2 and without having any assembly or support in economic, administrative and managerial matters. The Peru Cup, inaugurated in 1967, was always in essence a championship created to take organized soccer to the most remote places of the country; with district, provincial and departmental leagues; with a facade of amateur players, where many charge as professionals. Today it is a contest that suffers from the pandemic, but has suffered for many years due to the ineffectiveness of its organization and control. It is to be expected that upon his return he will find the Peruvian championships ordered and this traditional cup converted into the Peruvian third division, with direct promotion to the second. A healthy and convenient decision.
