Liverpool –
Future Georginio Wijnaldum is still being speculated. The Dutchman was reluctant to worry about it and asked Liverpool answer it.
Wijnaldum’s contract only lasts until July 2021 and can discuss with other clubs starting next January. This is certainly a danger signal for Liverpool, which until now have not discussed the matter of a new contract.
Even though Wijnaldum has played a very important role for Liverpool since joining in 2017. He is a versatile midfielder who is so relied on by Juergen Klopp and does not complain when played in any position.
In fact, his role has become increasingly crucial this season, when Liverpool’s midfielders take turns getting injured. Wijnaldum’s decision to stay and reject Barcelona’s offer was like a blessing for Liverpool.
However, Wijnaldum can hold new contract discussions with other clubs starting in January. Liverpool certainly cannot remain silent and must immediately invite him to sit at the table.
Moreover, Klopp openly wanted the former Newcastle United player to stay. When Klopp and his fans asked him to stay, Wijnaldum was still “silent.”
For him, contract matters are under Liverpool’s authority and Wijnaldum just wants to do his best on the field.
“I have said in previous interviews, that I don’t want to talk about contracts. I prefer to talk about matches, performance and football. The club should talk about contracts,” Wijnaldum was quoted as saying Daily Mail.
“Of course there is a close relationship between the club and the fans, there is a close relationship with me from the first time I arrived here. The fans really support me,” he continued.
“The supporters are always supportive, but as I said at this time it is not appropriate to discuss the contract,” concluded Georginio Wijnaldum.
