JAKARTA – Recent studies found that ginger can lower blood sugar up to 35 percent in people with type 2 diabetes. What’s more, ginger can be used fresh, dried, powdered, as a juice or as an oil.
Reporting from Express, Saturday (29/7/2023) research published in the European Journal of Pharmacology, explains how ginger can be very effective for lowering blood sugar .
The research team found that ginger extract was able to lower blood sugar by up to 35 percent. They explained that two different extracts, spissum and oily extract, interact with serotonin receptors to reverse their effect on insulin secretion.
In addition, research shows that this spicy spice can be used to improve diabetes. There is more research looking at ginger’s powerful effects on blood sugar.
A study in the Iranian Journal of Pharmaceutical Research also proved that ginger can significantly lower blood sugar. Looking at 41 patients with type 2 diabetes, the research team randomly assigned participants either ginger supplements or a placebo.
Subjects who were given ginger consumed two grams a day. After 12 weeks on this regimen, the researchers concluded that ginger lowered fasting blood sugar as well as hemoglobin A1c in diabetic patients.
“Regarding the negligible side effects of ginger, it may be a good drug for diabetic patients to reduce the risk of some secondary chronic complications,” said the research team.
Another reason why ginger can help people with type 2 diabetes is its very low glycemic index (GI). GI is a rating system that breaks down how quickly a food affects your blood sugar level after eating.
Low GI foods break down slowly and therefore do not trigger spikes in blood sugar levels. On the other hand, diabetes symptoms don’t necessarily make you feel sick. However, there are some common symptoms to be aware of.
The symptoms of diabetes include urinating more than usual at night, feeling thirsty all the time, feeling very tired, unintentional weight loss, itching around the penis or vagina, repeatedly getting mouth sores, wounds healing slowly, blurred vision.
