With a group of 12 exponents from the regional capital, the Club Gimnasia Varones Rancagua (GIMVAR) achieved excellent results in its participation in the National Advanced Tournament, held in the capital.
In the Advanced Level 1 categories (10-11 years old) the Rancagua group was national champion and also managed to place four gymnasts among the top 10 in the country, said coach Oscar Espinoza.
In this series, Elías Araya Escobar was the winner; in addition, Daniel Moreno Jumas was fifth, Renato Acevedo Sepúlveda was sixth and Martín Lara Salinas came ninth. “They also qualified to compete on September 28 in the South American Artistic Gymnastics Championship that will take place next November in Asunción, Paraguay,” said the coach.
In the Advanced Level 2 category (12-13 years), GIMVAR won several apparatus medals, with Maximiliano Ibarra Santander third in the individual category.
In addition, Maximiliano de la Rosa Wagner managed to finish eighth overall. This allowed both of them to finish among the top 10 at the national level and compete in the qualifying round for the South American Championship.
In the advanced level 3 category (14-15 years), Eduard Schmittner Alarcón was fourth overall and won several apparatus medals. Martin Muñoz also finished seventh, also qualifying for the continental tournament.
Finally, in the youth category (16-17-18 years), Agustín Espinoza was the national champion in Vault, runner-up in the high bar, third in the parallel bars and third in the floor. With this, he was fifth overall, also obtaining a place in the South American qualifier.
“This result consolidates us as one of the best men’s gymnastics clubs in the country, and we also have 10 of the best in the lower categories,” said Espinoza.
The next challenge for the GIMVAR group of gymnasts will be the La Serena Cup, a competition that will take place this weekend.
