Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata defeated Argentinos Juniors thanks to a penalty goal by Pablo De Blasis a few minutes before the end. The match, held at the Bosque stadium, ended 1-0 and left many controversies in the middle. This was the third victory for Lobo in the last four games and strengthened its position in the Professional Football League.
Referee Sebastián Martínez was an involuntary protagonist of the match. The first controversy arose in the final minutes of the game. After a play in the visiting area, a clash between Alan Rodríguez and Gimnasia defender Morales resulted in the referee’s decision to point to the penalty spot. De Blasis, who had entered the field, executed the shot with precision, fooling the Argentinos goalkeeper to secure the victory.
The temperature of the match continued to rise in extra time. Jonathan Galván, a player from Argentinos, was shown the red card after a challenge on Garayalde, in a decision that was also highly controversial. This expulsion came when the visiting team was desperately looking for an equaliser, which increased the tension on the pitch.
The start of the match was characterized by its dynamism, with opportunities for both teams. Castillo forced Argentinos’ goalkeeper, Ruso Rodríguez, to make a difficult save with a corner header. Shortly after, Verón’s header for Argentinos did not find the target, resulting in another wasted opportunity.
Gimnasia continued to press at the end of the first half. Pintado, with a half-turn in the area, forced another great intervention from Ruso Rodríguez. At the start of the second half, Prieto tried a shot from medium distance that found Gimnasia’s goalkeeper, Ledesma, well positioned.
The match seemed destined for a goalless draw before the decisive penalty. The clarity of the referee’s decisions was questioned by the players of both teams, especially those of Argentinos Juniors, who left the field very upset after Galván was sent off and the penalty was awarded.
This result left Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata in a favorable position, adding crucial points in its fight in the Professional Football League.

GODOY CRUZ 1-1 CENTRAL CORDOBA OF SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO
Godoy Cruz and Central Córdoba (SE) tied 1-1 in a match played at the Malvinas Argentinas Stadium in Mendoza, corresponding to matchday 13 of the 2024 Professional League. Despite having played with one man less for more than half the match due to the early expulsion of Brian Abascia, the team from Santiago managed to equalize the score.
Tomba opened the scoring with a goal from Gonzalo Abrego and dominated the match, especially after Abascia was sent off. However, Central Córdoba did not give up: José Ignacio Florentín scored the equaliser for Ferroviario.
The match was very intense and ended with the referee showing yellow cards to Andrés Meli of Central Córdoba and Gastón Moreyra and Gonzalo Abrego himself of Godoy Cruz.
This result prevented Godoy Cruz from returning to the top of the league, something they were looking for after a four-match unbeaten streak. On the other hand, the draw was a relief for Central Córdoba, which despite the adverse circumstances managed to earn a valuable point on a difficult pitch and dreams of moving out of last place.
