Gillinger performs “XXL” at Daugavpils Theater / Article / LSM.lv

On September 25, the premiere of the melodrama in Latvian “XXL” is expected, which will be the third director J. J. Gillinger’s production at Daugavpils Theater. This time J. J. Jillinger staged the play “Fat Pig” by American playwright, theater and film director Neil Labut, which was translated from English by Evita Mamaja, the representatives of Daugavpils Theater informed.

“It’s a story about the terrible difficulties many of us face in trying to protect and preserve what they believe in. That is all I am: noble intentions, which, when turned into action, turn into a surprisingly deplorable effort to preserve one’s image in the eyes of society. The heroism is complicated, ”describes playwright Neil Labut.

The application for the show says that it tells “about the newly flourished feelings between the handsome old boy Tom and the round librarian Helen. Going to lunch after work, Tom didn’t even realize that the lack of tables in a crowded restaurant could turn out to be fatal, but the round woman who would offer a place at her table was an intriguing creature.

Without realizing it, his heart is invincibly conquered. But it turns out that love is not so easy! ”

Actress Maija Korkliša, who plays one of the title roles in the show, shares her thoughts: “We, fluffy, soft, round women, also want to see a strong, bearable and smart man next to us. It is very easy to be like that next to XS size models, but it becomes much more complicated when the lady does not correspond to the ideal of a woman imposed by society. Even a slim girl can hide a huge atomic bomb, but a round girl – a vulnerable, fragile thumb. You have to learn to see and love a person, not just his shell. ”

The set designer of the performance “XXL” is Aigars Ozoliņš, the costume designer – Iveta Vecmane, the lighting artist – Sergejs Vasiljevs, the assistant director and choreographer – Linda Kalniņa. Starring: Maija Korkliša, Mihails Abramovs, Māris Korsiets and Zanda Mankopa.

The premiere of the production “XXL” will take place on September 25, the next performance – on September 26.
