Gillian Anderson regrets that she went straight to work after giving birth

After the actress gave birth to her daughter in 1994, she stayed at home with her for only ten days, then returned to film the X Files the series.

“I think if I hadn’t felt so guilty about getting pregnant in the first season, maybe I would have taken better care of myself and thought more about what I needed. And I would have thought more about what I needed in my interest at the time.”

Anderson also spoke about her earlier fears about her career, which prompted her to return to work so quickly after giving birth.

„But I think I got so used to ‘I almost got fired, I got stabbed, I’ll do what they say’. So, yes, 10 days after the c-section. But that’s what we’re still talking about, right? This is interesting. Because whatever it was, it happened 30 years ago.[…] I wouldn’t have chosen that, but I had no choice”

She added that she managed her work schedule differently after her second birth.

„[A második után] I haven’t worked in over a year. It took me over a year to feel like I was ‘in’ my body.”

The actress spoke not for the first time about how difficult it was at the beginning of motherhood. In an interview with Grazia magazine in March, she said she felt lost after the birth of her first child.

“I didn’t know what the hell I was doing! You’re out of control and sometimes you feel like you’re going a little crazy.”

Anderson mentioned in the interview recently appeared Want book, in which we can read the letters of various anonymous women about sex. The actress pointed to a common theme in these letters: women say they don’t know how to express their desires.

“And at the end of the day, what stands out the most is how much women struggle to ask for what they want, in the workplace, in relationships, and in the bedroom. And that’s why it’s worth continuing to talk about it.”

The Crown alumnus again shared his mixed feelings about returning to work 10 days after his caesarean section, explaining: “I wouldn’t have chosen it, but I had no choice”.
