Gijón registers the most expensive rentals in Asturias with an average of 576 euros per month | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

Gijón is the most expensive city in Asturias in rentals, and two neighborhoods concentrate 40% of the offer, according to a study by the Oviedo University. The average rental price in Gijón is around 576 euros for apartments of 70 square meters. The lowest amount is 350 euros for a home in El Cerillero, the highest being between 650 and 1,000 euros per month. The downtown area and La Arena are the neighborhoods where there is more housing for rent. The most expensive rentals are in the eastern and central areas, while the cheapest are in the southern and western areas of Gijón.

In total, a total of 7,010 empty homes have been detected in the city. All these data are derived from a study commissioned by the Gijón City Council from the University of Oviedo and in which a sample of 600 homes has been taken and meetings have been held with real estate agents and professionals in social intervention. The latter warn, if the protection measures approved by the COVID, evictions will increase considerably.

The study makes several proposals: to control the rise in prices, to increase the stock of public housing for rent to reach 2% or to mobilize empty housing through tax incentives. In addition, in Gijón there are 95 large homeowners. 24 are public limited companies, 39 limited companies and 32, individuals who own more than ten properties.
