Gijón reduces taxis by half due to the fall in demand

The Gijón City Council will cut the city’s taxi service in half to compensate for the drop in demand caused by covid-19.

The measure has been approved at the request of industry associations, which have proposed that licensed vehicles be distributed on alternative days.

The local government had already adopted a similar resolution last March during the previous state of alarm in order to lessen the economic effects of the health crisis in the sector.

Taxis whose licenses end in an even number will circulate on even days and the rest on odd days, the City Council has reported.

In the next few days, a resolution from the Mayor’s Office will be issued to make this proposal effective, which allows professionals to benefit from the aid approved for reduction of activity.
