PEOPLE- Until then very discreet about her private life and after having for a long time kept secret the first name of her little daughter Khai (which means royalty in Arabic) born in September, Gigi Hadid revealed, this time in the February edition of the magazine Vogue, that she had given birth at home.
Originally planned in a New York hospital, the 25-year-old eventually gave birth at home in her home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The reasons? First of all, the Covid-19 health crisis, which forces you to isolate yourself and limit the number of accompanying persons to the hospital: her mother Yolanda and her sister Bella would not have been able to attend the delivery.
But it was while watching the 2008 documentary “The Business of Being Born” which explores contemporary experiences of childbirth in the United States, that Gigi and her companion Zayn, former member of the group One Direction and now solo singer, have made the decision to have a home birth. “We both looked at each other and thought, that’s it, that’s it,” Gigi tells the magazine.Vogue.
Gigi therefore after a 14-hour labor, gave birth in an inflatable bath alongside her family and a midwife. A doula (a person who provides moral and practical support and accompaniment to a pregnant woman or a couple during pregnancy and childbirth) was also present remotely on Zoom to encourage her.
And it’s daddy, Zayn, who caught their baby girl. “I didn’t even realize she was already out,” Gigi explains. “I was so exhausted that I just looked up and saw that she was in his arms,” she told the magazine.
Giving birth at the time of Covid-19
The coronavirus epidemic has changed all our habits and made certain situations more complicated, particularly childbirth. If some have made the choice like Gigi Hadid to give birth at home by avoiding all the health rules imposed in hospitals, others have bent to the rule. This is the case of the American singer Ciara who gave birth on July 23. She had to wear a mask during her delivery.
She assured the magazineSelfto whom she gave an interview that his mask was of “pretty good quality” and that it did not prevent him from breathing normally. “I thought it was crazy, I was giving birth wearing a mask. What is this world? ”, Laughed the singer.
