The construction is sailed through the center of Rotterdam on pontoons to eventually be transported to the Maasvlakte. A tug and pusher pushes the bridge section forward, making the total length of the transport aircraft about 250 meters.
The temporary variant of the Suurhoff Bridge will be located next to the existing one over the A15. The existing one is being renovated and, in order to avoid traffic disruptions, his temporary replacement will partially take over from him. For example, the traffic load during the renovation will be divided over two bridges.
The Suurhoff Bridge traveled along the pre-construction site in Krimpen aan den Ijssel, after which it passed the Hef, the Koninginnebrug, the Erasmus Bridge and the Botlek Bridge. Next night he will pass the Hartel complex and the Harmsenbrug.

From the night of 14 to 15 May, the bridge will be placed next to the Suurhoff Bridge. Rijkswaterstaat states in a press release that both transport and placement depend on the weather and the tide.
Because many bridges in South Holland are aging, the Suurhoff Bridge is one of thirteen bridges that will be replaced or renovated.
