Gigabyte has unveiled an updated GeForce RTX 4090 WindForce 24G graphics card. The new version V2 has become more compact. In addition, the manufacturer moved her 12 + 4-pin 12VHPWR power connector to the rear.

The company also revised the design of the cooler. It still has all the features of the original version, including a large copper pad, nine composite copper heat pipes, and three 100mm fans. However, the appearance of the cooling system has changed. It is also smaller than the original GeForce RTX 4090 WindForce 24G.

The length of the RTX 4090 WindForce V2 24G has not changed, it is the same as the original RTX 4090 WindForce 24G at 331mm. However, the map has become thinner and lower. The height of the accelerator has been reduced from 150 mm to 136 mm, and the thickness has been reduced from 2.5 expansion slots (70 mm) to 2.2 expansion slots (55.5 mm). Due to this, the design of the video card has become more downed. The problem with the original GeForce RTX 4090 WindForce 24G is that although the card itself has a hefty cooling system, it received only a two-slot mounting plate. Despite the presence of a metal reinforcing bar on the back side for additional rigidity, there is still a risk of sagging of the accelerator.
The GeForce RTX 4090 WindForce V2 24G also comes with a bundled graphics card holder. Unlike other holders, which are usually installed in the lower expansion slots under the graphics card, the holder for the GeForce RTX 4090 WindForce V2 24G is attached to holes in the motherboard.

The most significant change for the RTX 4090 WindForce V2 24G is the move of the graphics card power connector from the top to the back. Unfortunately, not many manufacturers take advantage of this opportunity. And this, in turn, simplifies the connection of a very inconvenient 12VHPWR connector. Since the wire itself should never be bent at the junction with the connector to prevent possible and very disastrous consequences, the distance between the side wall is not always enough for its correct installation.
The new location of the graphics card power connector on the back of the graphics card may hint at the use of a different circuit board on the V2 model compared to the original version. However, the frequency characteristics of the updated model remained unchanged. The GeForce RTX 4090 WindForce V2 24G GPU runs at the same frequency of 2520 MHz.
The manufacturer does not specify when the GeForce RTX 4090 WindForce V2 24G will be available. There are no cards in stores yet. Unfortunately, its value is also not yet known.
