Gigabyte accidentally reveals Nvidia RTX 3070 16 GB and RTX 3080 20 GB cards

Gigabyte probably quite accidentally confirmed that upcoming Nvidia Super graphics cards will have twice as much memory as their standard counterparts. On its website, Gigabyte has published a list of graphics cards that will come with a free copy of Watch Dogs: Legion. The inventory lists five unannounced variants: the “N306S 8GD” model, two “N307S 16 GD” models and two “N308S 20GD” models. The unannounced graphics cards listed are the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 Super / Ti, 3070 Super / Ti and 3080 Super / Ti. The product models also tell us how much each model will have VRAM.

Unfortunately, it is not known when Nvidia will present new systems. The company will certainly wait for the premiere of Big Navi from AMD.

The RTX 3060 Super / Ti model is to receive 8 GB of memory, while the RTX 3070 Super / Ti already has 16 GB, and the RTX 3080 Super / Ti has 20 GB of VRAM. For comparison, the standard RTX 3070 has 8 GB of memory, while the RTX 3080 has 10 GB, and the RTX 3090 has 24 GB. There are a lot of doubts in the network whether the cards will have the Ti designation or will they appear as Super variants … But is there any difference? The list of products on the Gigabyte website shows that the new variants have an “S” in the name of the model, so we tend to lean towards “Super”.

While the relatively low memory capacities of the RTX 3000 series have been a frequent target of criticism, tests show that they are not a bottleneck. It is not clear how much performance could be obtained by doubling the memory capacity. Justin Walker from Nvidia spoke about this.

– “Why only 10 GB of memory for the RTX 3080? How was it determined that this is a sufficient number when the amount is stagnant from the previous generation”?

– “We are constantly reviewing the memory requirements of the latest games and checking them regularly with game developers to understand their memory needs for current and future games. The goal of the 3080 is to provide excellent performance up to 4k at all max settings at the best possible price. to do, it takes a very powerful graphics processor with high speed memory and enough memory to meet the needs of games. A few examples – if you look at Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Gears of War 5, Borderlands 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 running on 3080 at 4k max and RTX On, when the game supports it, we get a range of 60-100 FPS and use 4GB to 6GB of memory. The extra memory is always nice, but would increase the price of the graphics card, so we need to find the right balance.
