Gibran’s Culinary Business Receives IDR 28.3 Billion Capital Injection

Solo, CNN Indonesia

Startup business culinary belong Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Mangkok Ku, received US $ 2 million or around Rp.28.3 billion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp.14,150 per US dollar) from Alpha JWC Ventures. The fund is capital injection Mangkok Ku’s first external prize.

In its release, Alpha JWC Ventures stated that the fund is seed funding where the investor gets part of the ownership of the company. Mangkok Ku is a specialty restaurant rice bowl made by the jury Masterchef Arnold Poernomo and businessman Randi Kartadinata. Meanwhile, Gibran and his younger brother, Kaesang Pangarep, served as commissioners in the company.

“(Funding from Alpha JWC) will be used to open new branches, cloud kitchen, central kitchen and R&D facilities, “said Gibran via text message, Monday (23/11).

According to President Joko Widodo’s first son, Mangkok Ku is trusted because he managed to survive the pandemic. Currently, Mangkok Ku can sell 600 bowls per day.

“That is when it is quiet. Usually thousands if there is no PSBB,” he said.

Since its establishment in mid-2019, Mangkok Ku already has 22 branches in Jabodetabek. With this injection of funds, Mangkok Ku has set a target of 30 branches by the end of 2020 and more than 75 branches by 2021. Gibran added that Mangkok Ku will also invest in cloud kitchens, central kitchens and R&D facilities.

“Hopefully in the future we can open branches throughout Indonesia and open up more jobs,” he said.

For information, Gibran and Kaesang have had a number of businesses in the culinary field since Jokowi still served as Mayor of Solo. Apart from Mangkok Ku, several well-known culinary businesses are also under the president’s son’s business empire, such as Catering Chili Pari, Markobar, Sang Pisang, Kemripik, and Goola.

Goola itself is a traditional beverage business that is packaged in a contemporary fashion. Goola himself received US $ 5 million in funding from Alpha JWC Ventures in September 2019.
