Jakarta, tvOnenews.com – Vice Presidential Candidate Number 2 Gibran Rakabuming Raka asked about the lithium ferro phosphate policy proposed by the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar Team.
“Sessary team number 1 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar always promotes lithium ferro phosphate, what does that mean? Is it anti-nickel?” said Gibran, Sunday (21/1/2024).
Gibran said that China and Tesla are still hunting for nickel for their electric vehicle batteries to this day.
Criticism of the Jokowi government’s nickel policy was previously voiced by Thomas Lembong, co-captain of the Amien National Team, the winning team of presidential candidates Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar.
Thomas, who is also a former Minister of Trade, said global nickel prices had fallen 30 percent in the last year. He continued, nickel stocks in the world experienced the largest surplus in history because of Indonesia’s policies.
“So with the intensive construction of smelters in Indonesia, we are flooding the world with nickel. Prices are falling, there is an oversupply condition,” explained Thomas.
Thomas also said that the Jokowi regime’s confrontational attitude towards other countries regarding nickel had caused confidence in Indonesia to decline. As a result, electric car manufacturers are now switching to batteries that do not use nickel.
