Gibran Rakabuming Raka Apologizes for Mispronouncing Folic Acid as Sulfuric Acid

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Vice presidential candidate number 2 Gibran Rakabuming Raka apologized for mistakenly referring to folic acid as sulfuric acid as a substance needed by pregnant women.

The video recording of President Joko Widodo’s son’s statement then went viral on social media.

“What did I mention yesterday? Sulfuric acid huh. Yes, I’m sorry, please correct it,” said Gibran after badminton at the GBK Arena, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Monday (4/12/2023) evening.

Gibran also responded after the video spread on social media.

“(It should be) folic acid. “Sorry, sorry, sorry, please correct it,” said the Mayor of Surakarta.

For your information, folic acid is a type of B complex vitamin that is good for women’s health.

For pregnant women, folic acid is one of the most important intakes apart from iron, calcium and minerals.

Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is a dangerous liquid that is often used in making batteries, fertilizer, pulp and paper. This type of liquid is also widely used in the chemical and fertilizer industries.

One of the properties of sulfuric acid is that it is corrosive because it is flammable.

Apart from apologizing for mispronouncing folic acid and sulfuric acid, Gibran also responded to criticism of giving UHT milk.

It is known that presidential and vice presidential candidate pair number 2, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming, often distributed milk and food to children during this campaign period.

According to Gibran, milk assistance is only for children over the age of two years.

“Yesterday I told you, keep focusing on breast milk (breast milk), MPASI (breast milk substitute food) too, so if you are two years old and under, you will automatically get breast milk,” said Gibran.
