Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Mayor of Solo, Central Java, Gibran Rakabuming Raka go straight around to visit the community who owns the shop in the Kelurahan elephantiasis, Pasar Kliwon Subdistrict, Solo, Sunday, following a complaint about the practice of extortion (extortion) in the form of withdrawals zakat of the citizens.
Gibran, accompanied by the Head of Pasar Kliwon Sub-district, Ari Dwi Daryanto, visited several shops on Jalan Dr. Rajiman Solo Kelurahan Gajahan Solo, to return the money according to the levy between Rp. 50,000 to Rp. 100,000 per shop.
Gibran then apologized to the residents whose money had been collected.
“I apologize and return the money from the collection of zakat withdrawals to the residents of Gajahan which involved local village heads,” said Gibran when he met the owner of the collected shop.
Gibran explained that there were 145 shops that were asked for extortion fees in Gajahan Village, totaling Rp. 11.5 million. The entire money will be returned by the sub-district head to the residents who were collected.
Gibran explained that the withdrawal of zakat from residents in Gajahan Village, Pasar Kliwon, Solo had violated the rules.
“The head of the Pasar Kliwon sub-district will return the money one by one to the residents or the 145 shops,” said Gibran.
Gibran has removed the head of the Gajahan sub-district who was involved in signing the letter asking for the levy. This case will be submitted to the Inspectorate and related agencies.
“I ask everyone to get used to something that is right. Do not get used to something that is common but not justified by the rules. The tradition of extortion should not be tolerated, and it must not be cut like that,” said Gibran.
“Don’t expect the Lurah and Camat to have a ‘mindset’ like that, because we public servants shouldn’t be like this,” continued Gibran.
Gibran said, even though the people are sincere about giving their zakat money, this still cannot be done because there are regulations, including having to involve the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS).
Gibran appealed to the public not to be afraid to refuse extortion, even if there is a sign of the village head or something else. “I know that people who own shops give money as they want, but that should not be done,” said Gibran.
Lurah Gajahan Suparno will be relieved of his position starting tomorrow, Monday (3/5).
