The Giants announced on Wednesday the return of their blue uniforms from the 80s and 90s for two “Legacy Games” during the 2022 season. They will be worn on October 2 against Chicago and on December 4 against Washington at MetLife Stadium. For the occasion, the stadium will sport the colors of the time, including the end-zones, which will take over those of Super Bowl XXI.
Updated versions of the designs worn at the franchise’s first two Super Bowls, jerseys and pants will have the same red and blue trim used. All with the similar color scheme and typography. Late owner Wellington Mara’s motto “Once a Giant, Always a Giant” will appear in the neckline. This uniform will be accompanied by an alternate navy helmet consistent with that of the era: a white protective grille, a scarlet red stripe, and the old logo of the franchise on the sides.
“That era obviously still holds a special place in the hearts of Giants fans,” said John Mara, president of the Giants. “Our teams at that time had legendary players, some of the best in the history of our franchise. And these uniforms remind us of what has been achieved over these years. We are delighted to wear this uniform again. »
“This uniform is an important part of Giants history, and our fans have often asked if we’ll be wearing it again,” said Giants Chief Commercial Officer Pete Guelli. “We began the process of developing the uniform with the NFL two years ago, and we’re thrilled to see it come to life for two games this season. These Legacy Games will connect generations of Giants fans. »
It’s the Giants’ turn to present a new retro uniform. And not just any! The one from the 80s-90s 🗽
