Giants overtake Brewers and avoid losing by sweep

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Thairo Estrada hit a three-run homer in a four-run eighth inning for San Francisco and the Giants beat the Brewers 5-1 on Thursday to avoid losing the four-game series on a sweep.

A day after falling from first place for the first time since May 30, the Giants (85-49) now returned to the top tied in the NL West with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Austin Slater also connected and Loga Webb pitched seven fiery innings.

San Francisco has lost four in a row.
