LONDON – Scientists recently discovered white bacteria in mangroves in caribbean Sea, about 1 centimeter (cm) long, about the same size as a human eyelash.

The bacterium Thiomagarita magnifica, which was discovered by scientists in the decaying leaves of a mangrove forest in a seaside swamp shoal, is 50 times the size of the largest bacteria and 5,000 times the size of the average bacterium known to man so far, so it can be seen with the naked eye. naked.
Scientists did not think that bacteria could grow this big, because scientists had previously estimated an upper limit on their size.
But the current findings suggest the size of bacteria is hundreds of times larger than the upper limit previously thought by scientists.
Jean-Marie Volland, one of the authors who served at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory said:
“The size of these bacteria can reach 5,000 times the size of most bacteria,” said Jean as quoted by the Daily Mail.
Olivier Gros, a professor of marine biology at the Université des Antilles in France, discovered the bacteria while studying symbionts in a mangrove ecosystem.
“I saw them and I thought: This is really weird,” said Olivier Gros.
After that, the bacteria were taken to the laboratory for analysis under a microscope. The result is that each of these filaments is a single cell. Then further analysis found that the internal structure of these bacteria is also very special.
Generally, bacterial DNA floats freely within the cell, but the DNA in these bacteria is instead enclosed in a thin membrane. “This is very unusual for this type of bacteria,” said Jean-Marie Volland.
