It has been renamed 441987 and its diameter has a size ranging from 140 to 310 meters (3 times the size of the Big Ben). The asteroid did not collide with Earth, explained the It’s in in a statement issued a few days ago, but it was a rather close approach.
The same It’s in is committed in recent years to locate i celestial bodies that can represent one threat to our planet and then to study their movements. In 2020 there were several announcements regarding the transit of asteroids around the terra, like that of April 29 last.
But it does not end here: after what passed a few minutes ago, others are expected 28 close appointments with the famous “fiery balls” in the next decades, but that of 2020 will be the closest of the century, or rather of the next 161 years.
How to see the asteroid? With the naked eye it was also easy because the sunlight prevented us from fully enjoying the show that presented itself for a few seconds (given the speed of the body in transit). Sky enthusiasts were able to use a wide angle eyepiece (32mm or 35mm), but a 26mm or 27mm eyepiece is recommended to detect the slow movement of the asteroid.
