Gian Piero Gasperini Emerges as Top Contender for Inter Manager Position after Fabio Capello’s Rejection

Gian Piero Gasperini’s chances of getting hired at Inter have improved after Fabio Capello reportedly turned down the Nerazzurri.

The San Siro giants are looking for a new manager as current coach Leonardo is expected to become the new sporting director at Paris SG.

Inter turned their attention to England boss Capello after being turned down by top target Marcelo Bielsa and refusing to pay Andre Villas Boas’ €15m release clause in Porto.

Inter turned their attention to England boss Capello after being turned down by top target Marcelo Bielsa and refusing to pay Andre Villas Boas’ €15m release clause in Porto.

Pierfilippo Capello, the tactician’s son and representative, admitted contact with the Italian giants.

“Yes,” he told The Sun newspaper. “But Fabio will stay with the FA.”

According to the same publication, the Beneamata are said to have offered Capello a three-year deal worth £20million after tax. He currently earns £6million per campaign.

Capello, 65, is under contract with the England national team until after the 2012 European Championship.

Having failed to sign Capello, Inter are now keeping a close eye on Gasperini, who will be available after his sacking for Genoa this season.

Gasperini is a serious option given that president Massimo Moratti insists he will not poach a manager who is currently with a club side.

Delio Rossi, who recently left Palermo, is also in the running despite insisting again last night he had not been contacted by the Nerazzurri.

Fiorentina boss Sinisa Mihajlovic is still linked, although both he and Viola have made it clear they intend to stay together.

Mihajlovic, former Inter player and assistant coach, has one year left on his contract at Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Turkey boss Guus Hiddink and Zenit’s Luciano Spalletti also see their names linked to the post.
