The president, Alejandro Giammattei, assured on a national chain that the vaccines against Covid-19 will continue to arrive in the country, he especially referred to those that different countries have donated to Guatemala, indicating that it is due to “excellent relations with the world.”
“The vaccines will continue to arrive in Guatemala, some purchased and others donated, but those donations do not come because they simply come, they are the result of the excellent relationships we have with the world,” he said.

Along these lines, he assured that, despite the shortage of supplies, they have found the mechanisms to continue with the vaccination process, which, according to the official, “is going so well.”
In the update that corresponds to August 19, the Health portfolio reported that 29,840 first doses were applied against the coronavirus, while 53,103 people received the second dose to complete the immunization schedule. So far, 3,635,762 doses have been administered throughout the country.
According to official figures, 6.92% of the estimated population of 10,529,192 Guatemalans have complete immunization and 27.61% have received the first dose.
DOES NOT TALK ABOUT SPUTNIK V
As has happened in other messages, the president, Alejandro Giammattei, did not mention the delay in the delivery of Sputnik V vaccines.
The last entry of Russian vaccines to Guatemala was on July 28, when 100,000 doses were received by Health authorities. The day before, the Minister of Health, Amelia Flore announced a new contract with the RDFI which was renegotiated and reduced in the number of doses.
Since May to date, only 960 thousand immunizers have entered, representing 12 percent of the 8 million already paid, for an amount of Q614.5 million.
This Friday, the Minister of Health, Amelia Flores reported that on Tuesday of next week 400 thousand doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine corresponding to the first component will enter Guatemala. However, regarding the second doses, he indicated that a batch of 200 thousand is pending confirmation.
