Following the phenomenal success of the GI Joe Compendium box set earlier this summer, original writer Larry Hama is launching his own project on Kickstarter: Mounties vs. Werewolves, an all-new horror comic from an industry legend. With a writing career on GI Joe, Wolverine, and Batman, any project bearing Hama’s name is bound to excite comic book fans, and this latest comic looks like a good old-fashioned horror comic that’s fun.
Hama’s crowdfunding campaign for the project is currently live on Kickstarter. Mounties vs. Werewolves comes from the team of writer Larry Hama and artist Guy Dorian, Sr. The forty-eight-page first issue will follow the story of Canadian Mountie David Lawrence, and if the title wasn’t enough, he’ll find himself facing off against angry beasts that only come out when the moon is full.
With story and layouts by Larry Hama, with Guy Dorian, Sr. handling final art, the Mounties vs. Werewolves Kickstarter launched on August 15 and will end on September 14.

As an author, Larry Hama has always made the most of his opportunities, and the Kickstarter campaign for Mounties vs. Werewolves is just the next extension of that.
The Mounties vs. Werewolves Kickstarter page outlines the storyline for the new series, setting a classic horror storyline in the Canadian wilderness:
In 1922, David Lawrence, a veteran of the Great War in France and an assistant inspector with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, is assigned to a remote post in northern Alberta. The quiet post he expected turns out to be anything but. The small, ragtag unit he commands is actually a top-secret sub-agency tasked with killing werewolves and preventing them from spreading south to prey on larger settlements and population centers.
For fans of Hama’s work, Mounties vs. Werewolves is a fun next step in what has been something of a creative renaissance; GI Joe has enjoyed a revival thanks to Skybound Entertainment, with both a rebooted version of the series set in the shared continuity of the Energon universe, as well as a revival of GI Joe: A Real American Hero, written by Hama.
Larry Hama began his comics career as an assistant to Wally Wood in the early ’70s, after which he joined Neal Adams’ Continuity Associates. After working as an artist, Hama eventually became an editor and writer in the ’80s. By his own admission, Hama took on the GI Joe comic because no other writer at Marvel wanted the job. As a writer, Larry Hama has always made the most of his opportunities, and the Kickstarter campaign for Mounties vs. Werewolves is just the next extension of that.
Larry Hama’s knack for characterization and action/adventure storytelling makes him particularly suited to the comic book medium, and it looks like Mounties vs. Werewolves will continue that proud tradition.

Larry Hama’s knack for characterization and action/adventure storytelling makes him a natural fit for the comic book medium, and it looks like Mounties vs. Werewolves will continue that proud tradition. Joining Hama in the endeavor is artist Guy Dorian, Sr., an industry veteran with credits like New Warriors and Night Thrasher. Hama summed up the new series best, writing:
Mounties vs Werewolves is DEADWOOD meets THE HOWLING with a touch of SASKATCHEWAN and a dash of X-FILES… It’s gonna be KILLER.
With his new series Mounties vs. Werewolves, famous GI Joe writer Larry Hama will try to prove that he is still one of the best creators in comics.
