“Ghostwire: Tokyo Update Adds Controversial DRM to PC Version, Sparking Negative Reviews”

And PCs can “enjoy” another innovation in addition to the game’s Spider’s Thread content update…

Tango Gameworks’ game Ghostwire: Tokyo for PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) has been available for over a year now, as Bethesda honored the exclusivity period with Sony, as the game was released on March 25, 2022. Currently, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can also find the game on the service (who knows how long). Then that exclusive period ended, and yesterday Microsoft owned Bethesda (and its parent company, ZeniMax Media) he announcedthat the exclusivity period has ended, so we can also find the game on Xbox Series, but those who are Game Pass subscribers can also find the Tango Gameworks game that caused a big surprise at the altar of Hi-Fi Rushhal at the beginning of the year.

Since we’ve previously detailed what the Spider’s Thread update (which came free with Ghostwire: Tokyo on all three platforms) contains, we won’t repeat ourselves. There was a video of it, but that’s not what’s important. We should go back to the PC version, because someone at Bethesda (or Tango Gameworks…?) has lost their sanity, because you don’t see this kind of thing very often in the gaming industry.

The new update for Ghostwire: Tokyo is a Steamen It increased the game’s exe by 268.43 MB (essentially quadrupling it…). What is the significance of this? So much so that Denuvo has entered the game. It wasn’t in it when it was released last year. So, for the update, Tango Gameworks took the performance-reducing and machine-stressing, phoning-home solution already used in Hi-Fi Rush (for those who don’t have such a problem, be happy, but it’s not the only thing in the world) and put it in Ghostwire: Tokyo as well.

This is simply unacceptable. If this copy protection wasn’t in the game until now, why did it have to be added after the fact? After that, Microsoft should not talk about preserving the games (while digital games on Xbox consoles also have DRM, because they need an internet connection to work…?). The game has had an exceptionally high number of negative reviews on Steam since the update…
