Ghostbusters: New Movie Announced

Netflix has announced a new Ghostbusters animated series. According to reports, the series will be somehow linked to the movie Ghostbusters: Legacy aka Ghostbusters: Afterlife (original title). At least in this case Jason Reitman, the film’s director, and Gil Kenan, the screenwriter, are behind the series – as executive producers.

Jason Reitman has now stated that a film will follow in cooperation with Sony Pictures Animation. It is supposed to be a “full-length” feature film, albeit an animated film. Likewise, the new Ghostbusters animated film will bring along completely new characters, so it will fall out of the canon of the three Ghostbusters films. Let’s see what kind of film it will be – and how the Netflix series works. The animated series The Real Ghostbusters (1986–1991) and Extreme Ghostbusters (1997) reference the first two films in some episodes, but are set in their own canon.
