Ghislaine Maxwell gives interview from the cell: “Mouldy…

Maxwell met Epstein

The trial against Ghislaine Maxwell (59) will start on Monday, but this weekend Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-partner already released her story. Or at least the part about the appalling conditions in which she says she is locked up. She talks about “rotten food”, “a friendly rat”, and “a year and a half of abuse”. Maxwell is on trial for sex trafficking of minors.

“It’s hell.” Ghislaine Maxwell speaks to a journalist for the British newspaper Mail on Sunday from her 10-foot by 3.5-foot cell in New York’s Metropolitan Detention Center. She has been in isolation there for 16 months. “I have been mistreated and abused for almost a year and a half,” said Maxwell. “I didn’t get a nutritious meal, I can’t sleep with the lights off. The fluorescent light damaged my eyes. I am weak, vulnerable and tired. I don’t even have shoes that fit. I get rotten food. An apple had maggots.”

He has been refused bail on four occasions. Even when that bail was set at nearly $30 million. According to the judge, there is a great risk that Maxwell will run away. She was already in hiding when Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide and she was only found on the basis of telephone data.

She also describes how her ankles were open from the chains she had to wear during a preliminary hearing. The lettuce has a layer of mold, the bread is wet. She trims her hair herself with a nail clipper. “I used to take a shower every day, but I stopped because there are scary guards staring all the time.” The toilet was an open sewer. “A rat almost became friends. It was only solved when the rat jumped on a guard.”

Ghislaine Maxwell faces eighty years in prison for her part in the network around Jeffrey Epstein. She is also said to have recruited girls for her husband and his guests. She has always denied those charges. Her lawyers will likely argue that she was also a victim of Epstein.
