GGD Zeeland, in collaboration with the Zeeland Safety Region and a large number of Zeeland care institutions, is making a flu shot available free of charge for people who are taking care of their loved ones. GGD Zeeland announced this on Tuesday.
The flu season is upon us. In addition, more people have health problems due to the increasing number of corona infections. “A simultaneous outbreak of both viruses can have major consequences for the continuity of care in the province”, says GGD Zeeland.
General practitioners send a call for the flu shot to patients who are sixty years old or older or who belong to a risk group. Informal carers who do not receive a call for the flu shot from their GP can still get one free of charge through this initiative.
“Informal carers are indispensable for the person they care for. Even if they normally do not suffer much from the flu themselves, informal carers can inadvertently transmit the virus”, according to the GGD.
The initiative is part of a larger campaign to increase the flu vaccination rate in Zeeland. In addition to informal carers, the Zeeland care personnel also form an important target group.
Informal carers can register from 16 November.
