LEEUWARDEN – The number of corona infections in Friesland continues to decline. The demand for tests is also falling. Due to the reduced demand, there is again room for more source and contact research. “Nevertheless, vigilance remains necessary. The number of elderly people who become infected is still substantial.” according to the GGD Fryslân.

In the past week there were 839 infections among residents of the province. In the weeks before, this had already dropped from 1158 to 1051 and to 925 last week. The GGD has established that this has started a downward trend. The national restrictions that have been in place since October 13 have had an effect.

Infections in care and nursing homes

The percentage of elderly people who become infected continues to rise slightly. More than a quarter of the infected people were sixty or older in the past week. The number of care and nursing homes where residents or employees have tested positive for the virus is increasing. The GGD is concerned about this age group, also given the pressure on the healthcare sector and hospitals.

This week the GGD received 8 reports of infected people who died. Last week there were 9 and the week before 4. The official death rate related to corona is now at 93. 7 hospital admissions have been reported to the GGD. Last week there were 2 and 14 in the week before.

More source and contact research

Due to the decreasing number of infections, it will be possible in the near future to gain more insight into where someone contracted the virus and with whom he was in contact. During the peak of the past three weeks, this was less possible due to the crowds. Infected persons had to inform their close contacts themselves. If the decline continues, GGD Fryslân can pick it up again.

The number of corona tests has fallen again. 6982 people with complaints came to the four test locations. A week earlier this was 7,925 and the week before 10,117. The waiting time for a test has disappeared due to the increased supply and lower demand. Anyone who has complaints and reports on time can still go on the same day.

Commercial test streets

More and more commercial test lines and companies are emerging that test their own personnel. Companies do not always give the right advice. RIVM has therefore been asked to draw up guidelines for test lanes. For example, a doctor must be properly involved in the test and they must report positive test results to the regional GGD. Just like the Ministry of Health, the GGD Fryslân calls on everyone with complaints to continue to use the existing basic test infrastructure, or the GGD test locations, as much as possible. These are reliable and free.

Municipalities

Súdwest-Fryslân currently has by far the most infections. Last week it was 212 cases, 37 more than last week. There was also an increase in Heerenveen and on Ameland. In other municipalities it remained more or less the same or the figures went down.

The number of new infections this week per municipality with in brackets the number of last week: Súdwest-Fryslân 212 (175), Leeuwarden 129 (157), De Fryske Marren 79 (82), Heerenveen 68 (44), Smallingerland 52 (87), Waadhoeke 49 (69), Weststellingwerf 45 (65), Noordoost Fryslân 42 (55), Tytsjerksteradiel 33 (34), Achtkarspel 31 (30), Ooststellingwerf 25 (49), Harlingen 20 (18), Dantumadiel 19 (17), Opsterland 16 (24), Ameland 9 (5), Terschelling 6 (10), Vlieland 1 (2) and Schiermonnikoog 1 (2).
