GGD employees on non-active basis on suspicion of QR fraud

A number of GGD employees have been suspended due to possible fraud with vaccination certificates in various GGD regions. The employees may have abused a system that they had access to because of their work.

This is what outgoing Minister De Jonge (Public Health) reports to the House of Representatives. The employees are said to have created false vaccination registrations on request, as a result of which false QR codes could be created. The fraud was discovered a few weeks ago, writes De Jonge.

It is not clear how many employees are involved and how many false vaccination certificates may have been issued. GGD umbrella organization GGD GHOR Nederland does not want to provide any further information due to the ongoing investigation.

A complaint has now been filed against the employees. A 20-year-old man from Alphen aan den Rijn was arrested earlier today. Multiple arrests are not ruled out, police said.

GGD: we do not tolerate this

“We do not tolerate employees abusing their work at the GGDs or in the national call center to commit fraud,” a spokesperson for GGD GHOR Nederland said in a statement.

GGD employees must always submit a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) and sign a confidentiality statement.

“Unfortunately, despite all safeguards, we cannot completely rule out the possibility of employees abusing the system they had access to because of their work,” the spokesperson said. “If a violation is discovered, action will be taken immediately. This can lead to a report and immediate dismissal.”
