GGD changes testing policy for chlamydia: soon only in case of complaints

The GGD will change the testing policy for chlamydia from next year. People are now tested for this as a standard, even if they have no complaints. The health service will test from 2025 people only with complaints.

By not testing people without complaints for chlamydia, unnecessary treatment with antibiotics is prevented, said the GGD Zaanstreek – Waterland. ‘With this we fight antibiotic resistance (bacteria that are not sensitive to antibiotics).’ For years it was thought that the sexually transmitted disease could lead to infertility in all cases. It seems that this is not true.

To Amsterdam

New research shows that chlamydia infection usually goes away on its own without any complaints, without any negative effects. The Sexual Health Center of our regional GGD is currently closed. For a consultation, STD test or hepatitis B vaccination, residents can go to the Scottish Sexual Health Center for a short time. GGD in Amsterdam.
