Getting to know the Nyotaimori tradition, eating sushi on top of a woman’s body without clothes : Okezone Travel

TRADITION Nyotaimori is also known as body sushi still exist in Japan. It is an ancient tradition of enjoying sushi and sashimi on top of a naked woman. In the past, this tradition was made as a celebration of the samurai who won in battle.

This tradition has been banned in many countries, even Japan. In the 1990s, the phenomenon attracted much media attention in the West. Body sushi is a new phenomenon that attracts the attention of Hollywood celebrities.

No doubt, the body sushi demonstration drew protests from feminist circles. After a Japanese restaurant served body sushi in Kunming, China’s conservative city, a fight broke out in China.

“This shows a lack of respect for women. I’m not sure how people can eat something like this,” said one disgruntled resident.

Models are trained to lie still for several hours, they must be able to withstand accidental splashes of cold water and stimulation from chopsticks.

Before the banquet, the body must be specially cleaned with perfume-free soap.

Traditionally, food is eaten directly from the model’s skin, but sanitation laws in many countries prohibit this, forcing restaurants to wrap their models in plastic wrap to prevent skin-to-food contact.

Nyotaimori is often used for birthday parties or farewell parties.

In order to avoid spoiling the sushi and sashimi, as well as to preserve its fresh taste, it is usually stored in an air-conditioned room for two hours or more at a time.

During that time, being almost completely exposed to resting on the table, the models had to deal with health problems, such as colds, bronchitis, and respiratory infections.

Even though the nyotaimori rule says it’s not allowed to talk to models, models are allowed to talk because it takes too much to keep them quiet for two hours (rest time).

Guests can only pick up sushi with chopsticks and cannot make inappropriate comments, or movements.

Every country has different traditions. However, in an archipelagic country, this kind of tradition is totally unacceptable.
