3/ Organize the wedding ceremony in New York
Here is finally the day we have been waiting for! You have two options for the wedding ceremony: you can either get married at the City Clerk Office at New York City Hall or have your own ceremony anywhere in New York. The second solution is obviously the most original because you can opt for an unforgettable ceremony in Central Park or at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. Here again we can help you by organizing a tailor-made ceremony with a French-speaking officiant accredited by the city of New York. A valuable service in French for the most beautiful day of your life!
4/ Request approval of your marriage in France
At the end of the ceremony, you will receive an official document attesting to your marriage in New York. For your marriage in New York to be recognized by the civil status service of the French Consulate General in Washington, you must obtain the “extended form” of your marriage certificate. This form is available on the site du City Clerk. It must then be notarized and then apostilled. To do this, you will need to make an appointment with the New York City Apostille Department. Please note: obtaining the apostille is certainly the most complicated process because you must contact the New York administration in advance and everything obviously happens in English. We are obviously at your disposal to help you in this process! Also note that this step is crucial for the recognition of your marriage. Only the apostilled document will be authentic for the French authorities! The French Consulate General in Washington insists: “in the absence of a transcription request, your marriage certificate cannot be registered.”If everything is in order, the civil status service will issue you with your French family record book and will ask for your birth certificate to be updated.
