And we already know the date when the final episode will premiere – it will happen on September 13, which is Friday, by the way. The Prime Video platform, on which The Grand Tour can be found, also accompanied the announcement of the last episode with three photos from the filming and also a short video trailer.
Farewell to the show – and indeed the entire trio – takes place in the African state of Zimbabwe. The piece was named One For The Road.
The synopsis for the episode then confirms that it is indeed the last adventure of Clarkson, Hammond and May. The trio reportedly ignored instructions from Andy Wilman, the show’s producer, and set off for Zimbabwe in three cars that the famous Brits had always wanted to own.
The Grand Tour: One For The Road is the last act of the famous trio.
Jeremy chose a Lancia Montecarlo, Richard a three-liter Ford Capri and James a Triumph Stag. Prime Video further promises an amazing trip through a beautiful landscape, ending with an emotional finish on a strangely familiar island. And the last sentence of the trailer also plays on emotions, when Clarkson declares: “For the last time – let’s do it.”
Clarkson, Hammond and May started together in 2003 to present the motoring show Top Gear, which mainly thanks to them gained huge popularity all over the world.
But in 2015, Clarkson had to leave Top Gear after punching a producer over an argument about the unavailability of hot food during filming. Hammond and May also volunteered to follow Jeremy, as did producer Andy Wilman, another key figure in the show’s successful format.

The successful team then signed with Amazon, for which they created the show The Grand Tour, available on the Prime Video platform. In addition, each of the three stars also created their own shows for the American company, for example, Jeremy came up with a popular show about his own farm, James filmed entertaining travelogues from Japan and Italy, and Richard devoted himself to restoring classic cars.
The end of The Grand Tour has been talked about for several months, especially after an interview Clarkson gave to The Times of London in January. In it, he honestly described his point of view. “I was driving at a higher altitude and further north than anyone else. We’ve already done everything there is to do with cars. When we had meetings, people just raised their hands instead of ideas,” he said. The team simply ran out of thoughts and ideas.
Another problem is personal. According to Clarkson, filming the travel episodes of The Grand Tour is extremely physically demanding. “And I’m out of shape, fat and old,” said Jeremy, who turned 64 this year.
However, the end of the collaboration does not mean that the TV stars are going to retire. On the contrary, all three will certainly embark on new projects. It is clear from Clarkson that he will continue filming the popular show about his farming – Clarkson’s Farm – for Prime Video. What Hammond and May will come up with is not yet clear.
And we hope that all three will appear together in front of the camera in the future…
